YOUR FIRST STEPS

One step at a time.

You do not have to solve the whole project today. Start with safety, get the damage stabilized, then organize the repair plan.

Use the checkboxes as you go. Checkmarks are for this visit only. Print or save a copy to keep your progress.

WHEN YOU CALL YOUR INSURER

You can start with these words.

“I discovered damage at my home on [date]. The affected areas are [rooms]. We have taken these safety or mitigation steps: [steps]. What do you need from me, and what should happen next?”

Describe the facts you know. It is okay to say you do not yet know the cause or full extent.

Ask and write down the answers:

  • What is my claim number, and who is my contact?
  • What inspections and documents do you need, and by when?
  • What should I do about urgent mitigation or temporary protection?
  • If the home cannot be occupied, what temporary housing expenses may be covered?
  • What deductible, limits and payment steps apply to this loss?
  • How should additional damage or repair costs be submitted for review?

Coverage and payment depend on your policy and your insurer’s review. An estimate or a contractor visit is not a coverage approval.

Keep one folder for the whole claim.

A phone folder and a simple notebook are enough to start. Collect what you have; missing paperwork should not stop your first call.

A few things to avoid.

  • Do not enter an unsafe home to document damage.
  • Do not turn damaged utilities or equipment back on yourself.
  • Ask about documentation before disposal when safe; follow health and emergency instructions for hazardous items.
  • Do not cover damp or contaminated materials with new finishes.
  • Read the scope, price and payment terms before authorizing work. Ask what is emergency mitigation and what is reconstruction.

What Wave helps with

Repair-scope documentation, coordinated trades, finish selections and reconstruction. Emergency response and specialist mitigation come first.

For immediate danger, call 911. This form is for reconstruction inquiries.

What happens after the first calls?

Mitigation
Urgent work to control further damage, dry affected areas and address contamination.
Insurance review
Your insurer reviews the loss, policy and submitted documentation. Keep questions and responses together.
Reconstruction
The agreed repair work: materials, trades, scheduling and final walkthrough. Additional damage may require a revised scope and insurer review.

These steps may overlap. You can talk with Wave while the claim is being reviewed; construction depends on site readiness and an agreed scope.

FROM DAMAGE TO REBUILD

A clear path back to a finished home.

Water-damage reconstruction

Rebuild affected kitchens, bathrooms and living areas after the source of the water and drying requirements have been addressed. Coordinate cabinets, counters, flooring, drywall, trim and paint in the right sequence.

Fire-loss reconstruction

Plan the rebuild after fire damage, including affected walls, ceilings, cabinetry, flooring and finishes. Coordinate required trade repairs after site clearance, damage assessment and specialist smoke or soot remediation, with a documented scope before construction begins.

Storm-damage repairs

Define interior repairs from roof leaks and storm damage, with exterior repair coordination when the project calls for roofing, siding or gutters.

Scope and documentation

Photos, measurements, itemized repair estimates and documented changes help explain the construction work needed. Your insurance carrier reviews coverage and payment.

  1. 1. Review the damage. Tell us what happened, which areas are affected and where your claim stands.
  2. 2. Define the work. Review repair requirements, existing estimates, selections and any owner-paid upgrades.
  3. 3. Plan reconstruction. Establish site readiness, material orders, payment milestones and the trade schedule.
  4. 4. Rebuild and close out. Coordinate the work, document changes and complete a final walkthrough.

PLANNING QUESTIONS

Answers before construction begins.

Does Wave rebuild homes after a fire?

Yes. Wave plans and coordinates fire-loss reconstruction once the property is cleared for repair and required mitigation is complete. The repair scope identifies affected areas, trade requirements, finishes and any owner-paid upgrades. Specialist smoke and soot remediation needs are addressed before affected areas are rebuilt.

Can Wave help after the drying company has finished?

Yes. We review the affected areas and plan reconstruction, including cabinets, flooring, drywall, trim and paint. Repairs are scheduled around site readiness, the agreed scope and material availability.

What if the insurance estimate leaves out repair work?

Wave can document visible damage, measurements and the construction work needed, and provide supplemental repair estimates for your carrier to review. Coverage and payment decisions remain with your insurer.

Can I upgrade finishes during reconstruction?

Yes. We separate the agreed restoration scope from optional owner-paid upgrades so you can see the additional cost and authorize it before work begins.

What should I have ready for an assessment?

Have your property address, damage photos, any mitigation records and your current insurance estimate available. You can start an inquiry even if the claim is still being reviewed.
